1/4-20 Male Solid Set Hurricane Anchor — Concrete Screw Anchor for Hurricanes

 

  • A code-approved hurricane screw anchor for fastening storm panels, headers and
    footers to concrete, brick, hollow block and wood. Drill, drive, done — no shield,
    no countersinking, no caulking, and no separate anchor body to set first.
  • These are permanent direct-mount hurricane anchors. The ¼-20 threaded stud stays proud of the wall so panels go on and come off with a wingnut, season after season.
  • **Valid for use inside and outside the HVHZ.** That distinction matters more than it sounds. Several widely used concrete screw anchors are excluded from High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) use by their own evaluation reports, which puts them off-limits for Miami-Dade and Broward work no matter how they're installed.   • Why this hurricane anchor:

    **Threaded to the tip.** No chisel point. It self-drills into wood and bites
    immediately in masonry instead of skating across the surface.

    **Wide serrated threads** cut a fast, clean thread path in concrete, which is what
    gives the anchor its pullout and shear performance.

    **Mid-crossband threads** add drive stability and act as an exhaust port, clearing
    concrete dust up and out of the hole as the anchor advances. Packed dust is the
    usual reason a concrete screw binds or snaps halfway in.

    **Threaded chamfered safety collar** seats the anchor and prevents overdriving.

    **Weather Tuff™ coating.** Five layers over a hardened steel core: metallic zinc
    against red rust, a chemical layer protecting the zinc from white rust, epoxy over
    that, and a durable outer finish. The manufacturer reports it surpasses 1,500
    hours of salt spray testing

    October 2023, under the 2023 Florida Building Code.

    Minimum spacing 3.00" on center in every substrate. Minimum edge distance in wood
    0.75". **Embedment excludes stucco and any wall finish** — measure into the
    structure itself, not from the face of the wall.

    **The wood rating is worth reading twice.** This anchor is approved down to
    **G = 0.42**, which covers spruce-pine-fir and most common framing lumber. Some
    hurricane anchors require G = 0.54, which in practice means Southern Pine or
    denser. If you're anchoring into wood and don't know what species the house was
    framed with, that single number decides whether an anchor is approved at all.

    **Choosing a length.** On the longer sizes the threaded portion caps at roughly 3"
    and the rest of the shank stays smooth. That's deliberate. The **7⅜"** exists to
    reach *through* brick veneer to the structural member behind it — the smooth shank
    passes the brick, the threads engage what's actually holding the building up. If
    you're mounting shutters or headers on a brick home, that's the one.

The "nominal length" is the total length of the screw from end to end. The "L" length is the length from the collar to the pointed tip of the screw. The "LT" length is the length of the threaded portion of the screw.

 

How to use:

Step One: Drill hole with standard 3/16" ANSI masonry drill bit (Found Here). Drill 1/4" deeper than the length of the screw. 

Step Two: Use a 3/16" Hex Driver (Found Here) to drive the Solid Set Pro Anchors
